الوصف: The pursuit of sustainable development has prompted businesses worldwide to explore ways to align their operations with global sustainability goals to maintain a competitive advantage. Corporate sustainability management has emerged as a critical strategic approach for businesses aiming to align their operations with sustainability goals and achieve long-term success and societal acceptance. This thesis investigates how stakeholder management strategies and sustainable business practices contribute to corporate sustainability, particularly in industries with significant environmental and social impacts, such as mining. It examines the integration of stakeholder management within sustainable business models and explores how businesses can engage a diverse range of stakeholders to secure a social license to operate. This thesis delves into how organisations can operate within the safe and just space defined by planetary boundaries and social foundations. Through a review of the literature on stakeholder management and sustainable business models, the thesis addresses the need for businesses to engage and integrate a wide range of stakeholders' needs and expectations into their sustainability efforts. The thesis aims to answer two research questions: how sustainable business models incorporate stakeholder management and how businesses integrate a wide range of stakeholders' needs and expectations into their business models. This thesis further explores how organisations with high environmental and social impact such as mining companies prioritise sustainability aspects and stakeholders in their communication and practices. The findings provide insights into stakeholder engagement and integration strategies, advancing corporate sustainability efforts within industries with significant environmental and social impacts.This thesis is based on two appended papers. Paper A provides insight into what constitutes sustainable business models and the relevance of stakeholders in sustainable business models. Paper A suggests steps that businesses can take to integrate a wide range of stakeholders in their sustainable business models. Paper B explores how stakeholder management practices might be used to benefit a wider range of stakeholders. This thesis contributes to the ongoing discourse on corporate sustainability management by providing a framework for integrating stakeholder management into sustainable business models, with practical implications for industries with high environmental and social impact. It contributes to the stakeholder perspective in sustainable business models, and it emphasises the need for a holistic approach that considers the diverse needs and expectations of a wide range of stakeholders, thereby fostering corporate sustainability that aligns with the goals of creating a safe and just space for humanity.
