O projeto consiste na tradução de Frank Lima (Nova Iorque, 1939-2013). As publicaçõesde poesia de Lima incluem Inventory (1964), Underground with the Oriole (1971), Angel(1976), Inventory: New & Selected Poems (1997), The Beatitudes (1997-2000) e Incidents of Travel in Poetry (1998-2002). A obra que proponho traduzir é Incidents of Travel in Poetry, New & Selected Poems (2015). A par da tradução, este trabalho procura ainda fazer um enquadramento histórico da sua obra e demonstrar a falta que faz uma publicação dos seus poemas em português. Diria mesmo que o mundo ainda não sabe que precisa de Frank Lima. Lima é um autor não traduzido no nosso país e praticamente desconhecido no seu país de origem. Apesar desse véu de desconhecimento a que parece estar votado, a verdade é que foi reconhecido (e protegido) por poetas como Frank O’Hara e Kenneth Koch. Classificado por alguns como um poeta da Segunda Geração da Escola de Nova Iorque, juntamente com nomes como Alice Notley, Ted Berrigan, Bill Berkson e Ron Padgett, poeta recusava, ele próprio, essa categorização.
The project consists of a translation of poems by Frank Lima (1939-2013). Lima's poetrypublications include Inventory (1964), Underground with the Oriole (1971), Angel (1976), Inventory: New & Selected Poems (1997), The Beatitudes (1997-2000) and Incidents of Travel in Poetry (1998-2002). The work we propose to translate is Incidents of Travel in Poetry, New & Selected Poems (2015). Alongside the translation, this work also seeks to provide a historical framework of his work and demonstrate the lack of a publication of his poems in Portuguese. I would even say that the world still doesn't know that it needs Frank Lima. Lima is not translated in Portugal, and he is practically unknown in his country. Despite this veil of ignorance to which he seems to have fallen, the truth is that he was recognized (and a protegé) by poets such as Frank O’Hara and Kenneth Koch. Classified by some as a poet of the Second Generation of the New York School, along with names such as Alice Notley, Ted Berrigan, Bill Berkson and Ron Padgett, Lima himself refused this categorization. |
