O presente trabalho tem como foco relatar e analisar o estágio curricular, realizado por demanda da componente não letiva do Mestrado em Tradução, com especialização em Inglês, desenvolvido na agência de tradução L10N. Para tal, apresenta-se a dinâmica da agência de tradução, as atividades realizadas e as ferramentas e recursos disponíveis utilizados para a tradução da língua inglesa para a variante brasileira da língua portuguesa. Para aprofundar conhecimentos adquiridos nas componentes letivas do mestrado, o presente relatório contextualiza e aborda noções sobre a tradução técnica e a tradução automática (TA), discutindo a relação entre elas e as perspectivas e limites da tradução automática no contexto globalizado atual, sustentando teoricamente o trabalho prático desenvolvido na experiência do estágio. Com esse objetivo, analiso alguns exemplos práticos, encontrados em contexto real na L10N. Para fins didáticos, dois recursos de tradução automática, o DeepL e o ChatGPT, realizaram traduções dos segmentos selecionados para a discussão teórica do tema. Tais traduções foram comparadas entre si e, ainda, com uma tradução envolvendo a intervenção da tradutora humana — realizada a partir das duas opções de tradução fornecidas pela TA. O intuito desse exercício teórico é exemplificar e problematizar os desafios que conseguem ser ou não superados pelos recursos de tradução automática, envolvendo aspectos culturais, semânticos, lexicais, pragmáticos, entre outros. Ao mesmo tempo, os exemplos e a reflexão teórica visam definir em que medida a tradução automática é capaz de auxiliar o tradutor humano em seu trabalho do dia a dia. Por fim, o relatório apresenta de que forma a experiência contribuiu para a evolução e instrução da aluna-estagiária e sintetiza as principais dificuldades e aprendizados encontrados ao longo do estágio. Indica-se a possibilidade, já apresentada em outros valiosos estudos da área, de uma tradução automática com intervenção humana na etapa posterior e/ou anterior à tradução de textos a fim de otimizar tempo dos tradutores, custos da empresa, atender à demanda crescente de clientes e, principalmente, alcançar traduções adequadas. |

The present report focuses on reporting and analyzing the curricular internship conducted as part of the non-teaching component of the Master's degree in Translation, with a specialization in English, at the L10N translation agency. It presents an overview of the translation agency's dynamics, the activities performed, and the tools and resources used for translating texts from English into Brazilian Portuguese. In order to expand on the knowledge gained from the Master's degree courses, this report provides a contextualization and discussion of technical translation and machine translation, exploring their relationship, as well as the prospects and limitations of machine translation in the current globalized context. This theoretical foundation supports the practical work carried out during the internship. To achieve this objective, practical examples from the real context of L10N are analyzed. For educational purposes, two machine translation resources, DeepL and ChatGPT, were utilized to translate selected segments for the theoretical discussion. These translations were compared with each other and with a translation involving the intervention of a human translator, which was performed based on the two texts provided by the machine translation. This theoretical exercise aims to illustrate the challenges, such as cultural, semantic, lexical, and pragmatic issues, that can or cannot be overcome by machine translation resources. Additionally, the examples and theoretical reflections aim to determine the extent to which machine translation can assist human translators in their daily work. Finally, this report discusses how the internship experience contributed to the intern's learning and summarizes the main difficulties and expertise encountered during the internship. It also suggests the possibility, as explored in other valuable studies in the field, of combining machine translation with human intervention in the pre- and/or post-translation stages to optimize translators' time, reduce company costs, meet the growing client demands, and ultimately achieve accurate translations. |
