Claim: | 1. An apparatus operative to cause financial transfers, comprising: an imaging device, wherein the imaging device is operable to capture an image that includes check image data corresponding to at least a portion of a check, at least one input device, wherein the at least one user input device allows a user to provide inputs during a carrying out of a financial transfer involving the check, at least one output device, wherein the at least one output device includes a user display, at least one computer, wherein the at least one computer is in operative connection with each of the imaging device, the at least one user input device, and the at least one user output device, wherein the at least one computer is configured to produce from a captured image captured by the imaging device, which captured image includes check image data skewed relative to an imposed coordinate system, a modified image that includes the check image data deskewed relative to the coordinate system, wherein the at least one computer is operable to produce the modified image by electronically shifting relative to the coordinate system, substantially all pixels from the check image data in the captured image, wherein relative to the captured image, the modified image includes a shifted version of the check image data, wherein the at least one computer is configured to resolve check data from the check image data in the modified image. |
Claim: | 2. The apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the at least one computer is configured to cause the imaging device to capture the captured image. |
Claim: | 3. The apparatus according to claim 2 wherein the imaging device includes a camera, and wherein the camera is operable to capture the captured image. |

The apparatus according to claim 2 wherein the apparatus comprises an automated banking machine, wherein the machine includes a check acceptor operable to receive paper checks from machine users, wherein the check acceptor includes at least one magnetic sensor and the imaging device, wherein the imaging device includes an optical scanning sensor, wherein the at least one computer is in operative connection with the check acceptor, and wherein the at least one computer is configured to cause the check acceptor to receive a paper check. |

The apparatus according to claim 4 wherein the automated banking machine is part of a banking system, wherein the machine includes a cash dispenser, wherein the at least one input device includes at least one data reader operable to read user data corresponding to a financial account, wherein the at least one data reader includes both a card reader operable to read card data, and a biometric reader operable to read biometric data, wherein the at least one computer is configured to authorize a machine user to request a financial transaction involving the cash dispenser, responsive at least in part to both computer-determined correspondence between stored card information and card data read by the card reader, and computer-determined correspondence between stored biometric information and biometric data read by the biometric reader. |
Claim: | 6. The apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the apparatus includes a communication interface, wherein the at least one computer is in operative connection with the communication interface, and wherein the at least one computer is configured to send over at least one wireless communications network through the communication interface, check data resolved from the check image data in the modified image. |

The apparatus according to claim 6 wherein the at least one wireless communications network comprises a wireless phone network, and wherein the at least one computer is configured to cause the communication interface to wirelessly send the check data resolved over the wireless phone network. |
Claim: | 8. A method comprising: (a) operating at least one computer of an apparatus that is operable to cause financial transfers, wherein the at least one computer is in operative connection with each of an imaging device, at least one user input device, and at least one user output device of the apparatus, wherein the imaging device is operable to capture an image that includes check image data corresponding to at least a portion of a check, wherein the at least one user input device allows a user to provide inputs during a carrying out of a financial transfer involving the check, and wherein the at least one output device includes a user display, to produce a modified image from a captured image captured by the imaging device, wherein the captured image includes check image data skewed relative to an imposed coordinate system, by electronically shifting relative to the coordinate system, substantially all pixels from the check image data in the captured image, wherein the modified image includes the check image data deskewed relative to the coordinate system, wherein relative to the captured image, the modified image includes a shifted version of the check image data; and (b) operating at least one computer to resolve check data from the check image data in the modified image produced in (a). |
Claim: | 9. The method according to claim 8 and further comprising (c) prior to (a), operating the at least one computer to cause the imaging device to capture the captured image. |
Claim: | 10. The method according to claim 9 wherein the imaging device includes a camera, and wherein (c) includes operating the camera to capture the captured image. |

The method according to claim 9 wherein the apparatus comprises an automated banking machine, wherein the machine includes a check acceptor operable to receive paper checks from machine users, wherein the check acceptor includes at least one magnetic sensor and the imaging device, wherein the imaging device includes an optical scanning sensor, wherein the at least one computer is in operative connection with the check acceptor, and further comprising (d) prior to (c), operating the at least one computer to cause the check acceptor to receive a paper check. |

The method according to claim 11 wherein the automated banking machine is part of a banking system, wherein the machine includes a cash dispenser, wherein the at least one input device includes at least one data reader operable to read user data corresponding to a financial account, wherein the at least one data reader includes both a card reader, and a biometric reader, and further comprising: (e) operating the card reader to read card data; (f) operating the biometric reader to read biometric data; and (g) operating the at least one computer to authorize the machine user to request a financial transaction involving the cash dispenser, responsive at least in part to both computer-determined correspondence between the card data read in (e) and stored card information, and computer-determined correspondence between the biometric data read in (f) and stored biometric information. |

The method according to claim 8 wherein the apparatus includes a communication interface, wherein the at least one computer is in operative connection with the communication interface, and further comprising (c) operating the at least one computer to send over at least one wireless communications network through the communication interface, check data resolved in (b). |

The method according to claim 13 wherein the at least one wireless communications network comprises a wireless phone network, and wherein (c) includes operating the at least one computer to cause the communication interface to wirelessly send, check data resolved in (b) over the wireless phone network. |

At least one computer readable medium comprising non-transitory computer executable instructions configured to cause at least one computer associated with an apparatus that is operable to cause financial transfers, wherein the at least one computer is in operative connection with each of an imaging device, at least one user input device, and at least one user output device of the apparatus, wherein the imaging device is operable to capture an image that includes check image data corresponding to at least a portion of a check, wherein the at least one user input device allows a user to provide inputs during a carrying out of a financial transfer involving the check, and wherein the at least one output device includes a user display, to carry out a method that comprises: (a) producing a modified image from a captured image captured by the imaging device, wherein the captured image includes check image data skewed relative to an imposed coordinate system, by electronically shifting relative to the coordinate system, substantially all pixels from the check image data in the captured image, wherein the modified image includes the check image data deskewed relative to the coordinate system, wherein relative to the captured image, the modified image includes a shifted version of the check image data; and (b) resolving check data from the check image data in the modified image produced in (a). |
Claim: | 16. The at least one computer readable medium according to claim 15 and further comprising (c) prior to (a), operating the at least one computer to cause the imaging device to capture the captured image. |
