مستخلص: The present invention provides nucleic acids encoding B7-related factors that modulate the activation of immune or inflammatory response cells, such as T-cells. Also provided are expression vectors and fusion constructs comprising nucleic acids encoding B7-related polypeptides, including BSL1, BSL2, and BSL3. The present invention further provides isolated B7-related polypeptides, isolated fusion proteins comprising B7-related polypeptides, and antibodies that are specifically reactive with B7-related polypeptides, or portions thereof. In addition, the present invention provides assays utilizing B7-related nucleic acids, polypeptides, or peptides. The present invention further provides compositions of B7-related nucleic acids, polypeptides, fusion proteins, or antibodies that are useful for the immunomodulation of a human or animal subject.

An isolated polypeptide comprising a sequence selected from the group consisting of: (a) an isolated polypeptide comprising amino acids 1 to 316 of SEQ ID NO: 13; (b) an isolated polypeptide comprising amino acids 2 to 316 of SEQ ID NO: 13; and (c) an isolated polypeptide comprising amino acids 29 to 316 of SEQ ID NO: 13.
Claim: 15. The isolated polypeptide of claim 14, wherein said polypeptide is (a).
Claim: 16. The isolated polypeptide of claim 14, wherein said polypeptide is (b).
Claim: 17. The isolated polypeptide of claim 14, wherein said polypeptide is (c).
Claim: 18. An isolated polypeptide comprising a polypeptide encoded by the cDNA clone contained in plasmid BSL2-L165-35b in ATCC Deposit No. PTA-1988.
Claim: 19. An isolated polypeptide produced by a method comprising: (a) culturing an isolated recombinant host cell comprising a vector that comprises the coding region encoding the polypeptide of claim 14 under conditions such that said polypeptide is expressed; and (b) recovering said polypeptide.
Claim: 20. The isolated polypeptide of claim 14 wherein said polypeptide further comprises a heterologous polypeptide.
Claim: 21. The isolated polypeptide of claim 20 wherein said heterologous polypeptide is the Fc domain of human IgG.
Claim: 22. An isolated polypeptide comprising a polypeptide encoded by the cDNA clone contained in plasmid BSL2v1c2Ig in ATCC Deposit No. PTA-4056.
Claim: 23. An isolated polypeptide comprising a sequence selected from the group consisting of: (a) an isolated polypeptide comprising amino acids 1 to 247 of SEQ ID NO: 13; (b) an isolated polypeptide comprising amino acids 2 to 247 of SEQ ID NO: 13; and (c) an isolated polypeptide comprising amino acids 29 to 247 of SEQ ID NO: 13.
Claim: 24. The isolated polypeptide of claim 23, wherein said polypeptide is (a).
Claim: 25. The isolated polypeptide of claim 23, wherein said polypeptide is (b).
Claim: 26. The isolated polypeptide of claim 23, wherein said polypeptide is (c).
Claim: 27. The isolated polypeptide of claim 14, wherein said polypeptide contains a single amino acid substitution.
