Based on fieldwork conducted in a European aquatic park, this chapter focuses on the “emotional work” of trainers in their relationships with dolphins. The first part argues that there is an ideological conflict in the very definition of what a dolphin is – and in the emotions that their death deserve –, while the second part examines more deeply the communications system (based on the sharing of kinesic structures) that trainers and dolphins built in this specific park
