Griffin "Train up a child in the way hl' should go and when he is old hl' wiH not dl'part ('rom it" Pr,,,,,'r" .• 22:6 CELEBRATION OF LIFE Monday, May 14, 2012 7:00 p.m. Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church (Houston, Tex.) 3826 Wheeler Street ~ Houston, Texas 77004 Rev. Dr. Marcus D. Cosby, Senior Pastor Rev. William A. Lawson, Pastor Emeritus Today Today I can cry because roses have thorns or I can celebrate that thorns have roses. Today I can mourn my lack of friends or I can excitedly embark upon a quest to discover new relationships. Today I can whine because I have to go to work or I can shout for joy because I have a job to do. Today I can complain because I have to go to school or eagerly open my mind and fill it with rich new tidbits of knowledge. Today I can murmur dejectedly because I have to do housework or I can feel honored because the Lord has provided shelter for my body, mind and soul. Today Stretches ahead of me, waiting to be shaped. And here I am, the sculptor who gets to do the shaping. What today will be like is up to me. I get to choose what kind of day I will have! I NEEDED THE QUIET I needed the quiet so He drew me aside, Into the shadows where we could confide. Away from the bustle where all the day long, I hurried and worried when active and strong. I needed the quiet though at first I rebelled, But gently, so gently my cross He upheld. And whispered so sweetly of spiritual things, Too weakened in body, my spirit took wings To heights never dreamed of when active and gay. He loved me so greatly He drew me away. I needed the quiet, no prison my bed, But a beautiful valley of blessing insteadA place to grow richer in Jesus to hide. I needed the quiet so He drew me aside. D r. Alice O. Griffin rose from humble beginnings by the grace of God to become an excellent Educator, School Administrator, Entrepreneur and Community Leader. She was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 2, 193 |
