مستخلص: | The conference covers various aspects of professional development and careers in the mining industry, technical developments relating to mining, industry research and innovation, international competitiveness, and social aspects of mineral development in Australia and developing countries. Technical papers include dust monitoring at Northparkes mine, ventilation modelling and design at Ernest Henry mine, development in high-temperature ground at Mount Isa, and the use of electronic detonators in surface mining at Sunrise Dam and a quarry. There are papers dealing with artisanal/small scale mining in Papua New Guinea and Ghana, and studies of the coal mining industry in Wollongong and the Hunter Valley and Bowen Basin areas. Six contributions (three of which are abstracts only) cover issues around innovation, research and development and competitiveness. Professional matters - getting a job, a women's network, and ethics and risk management - are covered in three papers, and there are lively accounts from young mining engineers of their career adventures.
