مستخلص: The performance was studied of hydraulic top-hammer and down-the-hole drills in the quarrying of marble. Drill cuttings were collected to determine the coarseness index (the sum of the cumulative weight percentages of a particular size grade of debris sample). Drill performance data and coarseness index values were analysed using the least square regression method. A logarithmic relationship between penetration rate and drilling depth was found for the hydraulic top-hammer drill. Penetration rate decreased with increasing drilling depth. The penetration rate of the down-the-hole drill did not change with increasing drilling depth. An inverse linear relation was observed between coarseness index value and drilling depth for the hydraulic top hammer drill while the coarseness index value of the down-the-hole drill did not change with increasing drilling depth.
