This paper presents 2 application designs for noncontact infrared control. One is an energy-saving noncontact switch system, in which a transmitter emits light, which is reflected upon contact with an object and received by a receiver, thereby generating an electric signal to achieve noncontact switch control through various hand gestures. The other is a hand-commanded smart garbage can, which comprises a garbage can, a sensor module activated through hand gestures, a power linkage mechanism, and a control unit. The garbage can consists of a bucket and a cover, and the hub controlling the cover is installed on the opening of the bucket. The sensor module detects hand gestures and creates signals accordingly. The power linkage mechanism opens and closes the garbage can through the relative rotation between the bucket and the cover. The control unit reads the hand gesture signals and transmits the corresponding control signals, thereby triggering the power linkage mechanism to open or close the garbage can, completing the movement process of the noncontact automatic garbage can and reducing the likelihood of bacterial infection. Finally, a short-distance Bluetooth technology is integrated to enable wireless control within a specific range, and the hand gesture sensor is separated from the driver to enable the proposed designs to be used in different environments. The aim of the designs is to enable controlling multiple devices using hand gestures with enhanced convenience and practicality.
