| الوصف: | 104 The previous BL studies focus mostly on the women’s reading experience. In fact, the gay BL readers do exist but little research is available on gay’s BL reading experience. This thesis is based on eight gay men’s reading experience with a focus on their pleasure critical reading experience. The research results are as the following: Firstly, when reading BL novels, these gay men compare the illustrations in BL novels with their own life experience. They get pleasure through the reading processes since BL novels can provide them romantic phantacies and resources of coming out to their family. Accordingly, reading BL novels help them to release stress and support their gay identity. Secondly, compared with heterosexual women who can get pleasure through reading BL, gay men cannot identify themselves to the main characteristics who differ with them in terms of biological sex and sexual orientation in heterosexual romance. Thirdly, these gay men in my study are able to find dominant gender ideology in BL novels, such as heterosexism, the myth of male dominate sexuality and the equation of masculinity as active and femininity as passive. Although BL novels might differ from the texts in Stuart Hall’s study, I classify these gay men’s reading position as “negotiated”. On the one hand, these gay men identify themselves with characteristics in BL novels and can get pleasure in the processes of reading; one the other hand, these gay men recognize certain gender ideology in BL novels. Therefore, I suggest teachers to use BL novels as a way to enhance students’ gender consciousness and to provide support for gay students. |
