This thesis intends to design and realize a high-efficiency, low-cost, low to medium power frequency inverter based on the soft switching technique with low-priced PWM control ICs. To transform DC voltages to AC voltages and currents with a 60-Hz sinusoidal-wave needed for the load, the front-end stage of the converter adopts the zero-voltage-switching/zero-current-switching LLC resonant full-bridge PPM converter architecture and the back-end stage uses the single-phase full-bridge frequency converter architecture. The converter is not only designed to satisfy the fundamental demands, including low harmonic, low noise, high power density, and high quality, but also targeted to reduce the cost. The resulting converter is proved to have lower cost and substantially improved efficiency than the traditional frequency converter available in the market.
