الوصف: | 91 For patients, the intimate relationship is often challenged by diseases. Especially to gay men who are infected with HIV/AIDS, their intimate relationship is usually been regarded as stigmatization and marginalization. While they were diagnosed HIV infection and faced the change of the intimate relationship with their partner, it’s usually difficult for them to express their loss and seek for help. The purposes of this study are to understand the experience of how the disease affects the intimate relationship of gay men group and how they face the change of their relationship. A total of 18 gay men with HIV infection were interviewed by In-depth interviews. We analyzed the contents by the constant comparative methods and concluded the central concepts of the participants. The results of this study identified three aspects of the change of intimate relationship after HIV infection. First, altered expectation to the relationships. Second, their senses of judgments from social morality and self limitation about sex, feelings, marriages and having babies. Third, swings between different status of relationship. Some of them give up their eagerness for love or hesitate to be close. Maybe they wait for love passively. Some of them gradually allow themselves having love and experiencing the transformation of couple relationships. Moreover, this study also discussed the following issues: the importance of equal basis and commitment of love relationship, the threat of sex by HIV virus, the interaction of gay men’s intimate relationship and their adjustment after diagnosed. They may struggle for choices between gay men’s love and marriage with a women. Besides, the social context of intimate relationships usually ignored in the medical system is also an important aspect to discuss. As to practical, this study presents another basis view to understand what happens to these gay men with HIV/AIDS. Psychotherapy or counseling can be provided to help gay couples to deal with the vary of their relationship. The professional staffs should make themselves comfortable to discuss the related issue of intimate relationship. At least, the policies of health education also need to be modified. Not only Safe sexual behaviors are important, but also emotional issue should be emphasized. |
