The property of carbon deposits in soot filter and the concentrations of exhaust emission in diesel engines have great relationships with combustion performance of engines. The research approach is to analyze compositions of deposits in soot filter and to take their ignition temperature and to measure exhaust emissions (NOx and Smoke) using fuels of various compositions and additives in diesel engine without changing its structure, owing to residue carbon, sulfur contents, ash, density and viscosity of fuel and additives all affecting deposits in soot filter and exhaust emissions. Cylinder gas pressure, fuel line pressure, needle lift, smoke and NOx emissions, and so on are recorded using fuels of various compositions under engine loads and speeds. Cylinder gas pressure, fuel line pressure, needle lift and crank angle data in multiple cycles are obtained by high-speed data acquisition system in short time. Then, these data are put into computer analysis system, heat-release rate program of diesel engine are also developed by complementing a spray combustion model into the thermodynamic analysis to investigate the influence of four combustion stages (ignition delay, premixed combustion, diffusion combustion and afterburning combustion) on smoke and Nox emissions. The experimental results show tat with an increase in the concentration of H-86 additives, the brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC), smoke, HC and SOF contents in carbon deposits decrease, but Nox increases. The concentration of H-86 additives is about 535 PPM to obtain the best effect, when the concentration is over this value to get a worse effect.
