| الوصف: | In the Basse-Casamance region (Senegal), a community-based tourism project was initiated in the early 1970s. Called “integrated rural tourism”, it led to the emergence of village touristic camps created and managed by and for villagers. The main aim of creating these camps was to encourage local development and to stem the rural exodus. Nonetheless, if village camps still exist in this region today, they have, since the launch of this project, been confronted with a protean crisis context. So, fifty years after the opening of the very first village camp, what assessment can be made? After describing the emergence of integrated rural tourism in Basse-Casamance, the article will focus on the crises faced by the region before showing how the original role of village camps is now partly being hijacked. Our discussion will be based primarily on qualitative research (interviews and observation) begun in February 2023. |
