| الوصف: | Ecotoxicology evaluates the effects of chemical and physical agents on living organisms, which can alter genes and cell metabolism, which directly affects their development and functioning. The anthropic actions for proper release of solid waste and clandestine sewage connections in the urban drainage worsened the water quality of the ponds in Teresina-PI, partial revitalization works were carried out to recover the water body, but studies were carried out to monitor the quality of the water. Therefore, this article aims to evaluate the possible toxic effects, verifying the cytotoxic and mutagenic potential in regions with and without revitalization in lakes in the north of Teresina. For the study, the allium cepa methodology was used with the evaluation of the development of the roots in contact with the analyzed water and analysis of cell division and chromosomal aberrations of the onion, with observation in the rainy and dry season. To treat the results, a statistical test was used with the Graphpad Prism program, Neuman–Keuls test as a post-hoc test with significance of p< 0.005 using 1,000 cells per bulb. In the dry period, with the exception of points P1, P2 and P10, all the others were capable of inducing some damage, be it toxicity, cytotoxicity or chromosomal aberrations, in the rainy period only the P3 point did not present alterations. It was concluded that authorities and specialists should investigate and prosecute the clandestine releases of raw sewage and invest in environmental education for the resident population and thus mitigate the anthropic actions caused by them. ; A ecotoxicologia avaliam a os efeitos de agentes químicos e físicos nos organismos vivos, podendo alterar os genes e o metabolismo das células, na qual afeta diretamente no desenvolvimento e no funcionamento dos mesmos.
