The civilizing process requires the human being habits ever more refined, where the social status is maintained because of what it consumes. The work to follow the objective was to assess the quantum of solid waste are produced at home by residents of two streets located in the neighborhood of the Novo Cruzeiro in the city of Campina Grande, Paraiba. In the approach, are cataloged concepts relevant to the subject of the study, standards relating to the disciplining, environmental preservation, and classification of solid waste, raised reflections on the damage to health that is caused by waste, and reflections on the environmental education as a tool to aid in the management of waste. We obtained the following results quantitative data on the grounds of field research with the realization of weighings household waste, characterized as organic waste and non-organic, carried out in two consecutive weeks. It was found that the amount of waste generated are kept relatively constant, apart from special periods as well, that waste adds to the consumption habits, it is concluded that the generation of organic waste is a direct reflection of the nutritional profile of families and that it is necessary counterpart of decentralized initiative to reduce the generation of house hold waste, since the possibilities of reuse and reduction of environmental impacts caused by them. ; O processo civilizatório impõe ao ser humano hábitos cada vez mais requintados, onde o status social se mantém em razão do que se consome. O trabalho a seguir tem como objetivo avaliar o quantum de resíduos sólidos são produzidos a nível domiciliar por moradores de duas ruas localizadas no bairro do Novo Cruzeiro na cidade de Campina Grande, Paraíba.
