الوصف: The aim of this study is to develop an understanding of language teachers’views on the use of translation for the purpose of teaching English and Germanat upper-secondary school level in Sweden. This is a qualitative study basedon interviews. The results showed that Swedish upper-secondary teachers arehesitant towards including translation in their teaching. One reason for thismight be that the Swedish syllabi for English and German have acommunicative approach which emphasizes the use of the target language(TL). However, the result showed that the teachers did use translation whendealing with idioms, grammar and vocabulary. The pedagogical implicationsthat this study may bring about are that language teachers become aware of thecontemporary perspective on using translation as a tool in foreign languageteaching within the teaching profession. The study can also prompt reflectionsamong language teachers on how they work or do not work with translation intheir teaching, as well as raise awareness of the advantages and disadvantagesof including translation in their own didactic repertoire.
