In 1921 Adolfo de Carolis was one of the artists most involved in the celebrations in Ravenna of the sixth centenary of Dante Alighieri’s death. The mural paintings he designed for the Palazzo Veneziano and the Basilica of San Francesco are particularly important. The paper aims to investigate the history of such paintings, to identify some of the visual sources he used and to demonstrate the artist’s reflection on Dante and the Comedy. |
