Mesenteric adenitis is the inflammation of the mesenteric lymph nodes. A pathology whose clinical presentation mimics acute appendicitis, benign and self-limited, with a prevalence that has been increasing with the use of imaging techniques for the study of abdominal pain in the emergency department. It is more frequent in the pediatric population. It can be classified into primary and secondary, the latter in turn divided into acute and subacute or chronic causes. There are no specific laboratory tests, these are used to guide the diagnosis or to exclude possible differential diagnoses. Imaging studies take great importance in this pathology, ultrasound being cost effective and safe is the initial study of choice. It is a diagnosis of exclusion and its recommended treatment is supportive. ; * |
