Pressure ulcers are common injuries that affect patients with limited mobility, presenting significant challenges in their management and prevention. The objective of the study was to interpret pressure ulcers through a narrative literature review. A search was conducted on PubMed using the algorithm (ULCERAS POR PRESIÓN) OR (PRESSURE ULCERS) to identify scientific articles in English and Spanish published between 2021 and 2024. An initial 3,372 documents were selected and filtered according to their relevance. The narrative review allowed for a flexible and critical evaluation of relevant studies. The findings highlighted the effectiveness of combined treatments, such as silver nanoparticle dressings and comprehensive care, in improving the healing of pressure ulcers and family satisfaction. Ozone therapy and relaxation techniques also showed benefits in healing and quality of life. Significant gaps were identified in the implementation of preventive interventions, particularly in surgical settings and for patients with darker skin tones. Risk factors such as advanced age, comorbidities, and length of hospital stay were determinant in the development of pressure ulcers, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. The review concludes by emphasizing the need for comprehensive and personalized approaches in the management of pressure ulcers, continuous education for healthcare personnel, and the implementation of innovations in evaluation and treatment.
