Acute cholecystitis represents an urgent and challenging medical problem that affects a wide spectrum of the population caused mainly by obstruction of the cystic duct, generally due to gallstones, this condition leads to the accumulation of bile and inflammation of the gallbladder. The purpose of this case study was to implement a nursing care process in a patient with acute cholecystitis in the preoperative phase. A comprehensive assessment of Marjory Gordon's functional patterns and the NANDA, NOC and NIC taxonomies was carried out, which allowed detailed information to be collected about the patient's condition, identifying several nursing diagnoses such as acute pain, nausea, nutritional imbalance due to sleep defect and disorder. The interventions were aimed at pain management, nausea control, nutritional counseling, and sleep improvement. The results of these interventions were achieving a significant reduction in pain, a decrease in the frequency and intensity of nausea, improvements in nutritional status and an improvement in the sleep pattern, which minimized the risk of complications during the hospitalization period. Concluding that the implemented nursing care plan proved to be effective in improving the patient's well-being and quality of life.
