Background: Aging produces a deterioration in the elderly and this affects the neuromuscular system among others, reducing muscle mass, strength and muscle power and this generates a decrease in functional capacity in the elderly, which can cause falls and disability. Objective: The objective of this study is to pilot an innovative tool for detecting the risk of falls in people admitted to nursing homes. Methods: Study participants included 47 elderly people (over 55 years of age) residing in two nursing homes. To determine the previous status of the participants, a Mini-Nutritional Assessment (MNA), Charlson scale and Functional Assessment with FallSkip® were performed based on the results obtained by the modified Timed Up and Go fall risk test. A descriptive analysis was performed to observe the differences between residences using the t-student test. Results: 70% of the people in nursing homes are over 75 years old, and the female participants were found mostly in the older age groups, unlike their male counterparts, who were concentrated in the younger groups age. When comparing the anthropometric variables and the clinical scales of the two nursing homes, no statistically significant differences (p > 0.05) appeared only in the fall risk score (p < 0.05) and the power of sitting to standing (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The ease of evaluating the functional status of the elderly in nursing homes by means of an objective and simple functional test will allow us to design individualized rehabilitation interventions for each participant; as well as knowing the functional level of people in nursing homes ; Antecedentes: El envejecimiento produce un deterioro en la persona mayor y esto afecta el sistema neuromuscular entre otros, reduciendo la masa muscular, la fuerza y la potencia muscular y esto genera una disminución de la capacidad funcional en el adulto mayor, pudiendo ocasionar caídas e incapacidad.
