Can we perceive emotions in another person’s face? According to some phi-losophers the answer to this question is positive: by seeing a person’s facial expression of happiness I hereby see her happiness. The aim of this paper isto argue that this is not the case: when we see another person’s facial ex-pression, we do not perceive the corresponding emotion, but rather the af-fective aspect of the emotion. In addition, I suggest that the perception ofthis affective aspect emerges from a peculiar perception-action loop that is automatically activated when an observer encounters a face expressing anemotion. ; Pouvons-nous percevoir des émotions dans le visage d'une autre personne ? Selon certains philosophes, la réponse à cette question est positive : en voyant l'expression faciale de bonheur d'une personne, je perçois aussi son bonheur. Le but de cet article est de montrer que ce n'est pas le cas : lorsque nous voyons l'expression faciale d'une autre personne, nous ne percevons pas l’émotion correspondante, mais plutôt l'aspect affectif de l'émotion. De plus, je formule l’hypothèse que la perception de cet aspect affectif émerge d'une boucle perception-action déclenchée automatiquement lorsque l'observateur voit un visage exprimant une émotion. ; Podemos perceber as emoções no rosto de outra pessoa? De acordo com alguns filósofos, a resposta a esta pergunta é positiva: ao ver a expressão facial de felicidade de uma pessoa, eu vejo sua felicidade por este meio. O objetivo deste trabalho é argumentar que este não é o caso: quando vemos a expressão facial de outra pessoa, não percebemos a emoção correspondente,mas sim o aspecto afetivo da emoção. Além disso, sugiro que a percepção deste aspecto afetivo emerge de um loop peculiar de percepção-ação que é ativado automaticamente quando um observador encontra um rosto expressando uma emoção. |
