The paper presents experimental results of biogas-diesel hybrid engine converted from diesel engine with the help of two speed governors. The hybrid engine can be fueled with biogas containing different CH4 concentrations, even with poor biogas. In case of shortfall of biogas supply, the hybrid engine can operate in diesel mode without any specialized technical intervention. To ensure rated power of diesel engine as the hybrid engine is fueled with biogas containing 60% CH4, a diesel injection of 30% rated injection is needed. If CH4 concentration in biogas is higher than 70%, only a pilot injection of 10% rated injection is needed for ignition. Speed of the hybrid engine can be controlled by biogas speed governor with the speed fluctuation of about 5%. |
