Clarice Lispector is a writer of great notoriety in and out of Brazil. This paper focuses on the translations of four lexical phrases (LPs) coming from the word coisa in Água Viva, by the Author. We analysed the work and the translations into English of 1989 by Earl Fitz and Elizabeth Lowe, and of 2012 by Stefan Tobler. We have used the software WordSmith Tools (Scott, 1999), in order to generate a list of recurrent and preferential words of the work. We have selected the word coisa, once it appeared in the third position in the word list, besides its importance in the novel. This study has grounded itself in corpus based translation studies by Baker (1993, 1995, 1996, 1999, 2004a, 2004b), in corpus linguistics principles by Berber Sardinha (2000, 2004), as well as in the interdisciplinary approach by YYY (2005, 2007). The purpose was to analyse if there was variation and identify the similarities and differences found in the selected LPs. We could notice that there were more similarities between the original work and the translated one of 1989; in the other hand, we have verified more differences with regard to the original work and the translated one of 2012, i.e., variations were more used in the translation of 2012 if compared to the translated work of 1989. ; Clarice Lispector é uma escritora de grande notoriedade dentro e fora do Brasil. Este artigo aborda as traduções de quatro frases lexicais (FLs) provenientes do vocábulo coisa em Água Viva, da Autora. Analisamos a obra e as traduções para o inglês de 1989 por Earl Fitz e Elizabeth Lowe, e a de 2012 por Stefan Tobler. Utilizamos a ferramenta computacional WordSmith Tools (Scott, 1999), a fim de gerar uma lista dos vocábulos recorrentes e preferenciais da obra. Selecionamos o vocábulo coisa, uma vez que foi o terceiro na lista de palavras, além de sua importância no romance.
