الوصف: Introduction. In the last decade of the twentieth century Ukraine’s labor legislation has undergone an intensive transformation. They were caused by several socio-economic reasons including the denationalization of the economy, the transition from the administrative-command system of planning the country’s economic development to market conditions, the emergence of unemployment.From our point of view, it becomes a task of considering the positive and negative experience of adapting Ukrainian labor legislation to market conditions in 1991-2000 nowadays. Experience should be useful in the light of the development and adoption of the new Labor Code.Purpose. The purpose of the article is a retrospective analysis of the amendments to the current Code of Labor Law of Ukraine during the first decade of its independent existence, the revealing of the laws and ways of adaptation of the Labor Code of Ukraine, adopted in 1971, to the conditions of a market economy.Results. The Constitution of Ukraine 1996 became the basis for positive changes in the national labor legislation in 1991-2000: Article. 43, 44, 45 expanded the complex of social and labor rights. The content of the right to work with the guarantee of equal opportunities in choosing a profession and a kind of work activity was formulated in a new way. At the constitutional level, for the first time, the use of forced labor was prohibited and the protection of collective socio-economic interests by strike was foreseen.Significant changes were experienced by the Labor Code of 1971. The adaptation of the Labor Code to new conditions took place in several ways: the laws of Ukraine on amendments and additions; Special acts that regulate existing labor law institutes in a new way; The development of jurisprudence, which indicated ways to overcome the contradictions between modern acts and obsolete norms of the Labor Code.
