| الوصف: | There is a need to understand the rights given to grieving students at universities, which can be highlighted in their bereavement leave policies (or lack thereof). All students have the right to continue education and be supported by their university in the process, not just through supportive professors and staff but through legal policy that protects them during a natural and vulnerable time. The first step of the social problem is understanding how many universities or colleges have readily available bereavement leave policies and then to see how protective of their grieving students they may be. The aim of this study is to measure the degree to which US university bereavement policies are equitable. The research question is: To what degree are United States of America (U.S.) bereavement policies at universities equitable for students? The research method employed was quantitative content analysis of university policies. I randomly sampled 95 higher-education institutions and developed an original scale to measure equitability. The main finding is that of the 95 universities, only 9 had bereavement policies. On average, US bereavement policies are unequitable. This study concludes with research and policy implications. |
