This paper examines the current conditions and problems of nursery facilities within hospitals as a case study to consider the way of managing employer-provided childcare service in general. In num- ber, nurseries within hospitals occupy more than half of nurseries in workplace. It has played an im- portant role in nursing babies and infants whose mothers preferred to continue their job after their childbirth since a long time ago. Under the new public system of child and childcare planned to meet the increasing needs of working parents, nursery in workplace is authorized as facilities to be provided with local grants to make available to regional children. We conducted a questionnaire survey to all nurseries within hospital in Kyushu District to investigate their efforts for childcare services, financial affairs and the working circumstances of childrenʼs nurses. The results of the questionnaires show their financial difficulties and the lack of opportunities of job training of childrenʼs nurses. We conclude that more governmental measure is expected to make them work more effective to provide support for children and for working mothers. ; departmental bulletin paper |
