Edentulism, the total or partial loss of teeth, affects people of all ages and can arise due to various factors such as injuries, decay, or lack of dental care. This condition can generate insecurity and self-esteem issues, as individuals suffering from it may feel inferior to those who do not. The main causes of edentulism are dental caries and periodontal disease. The aim of the study was to determine the prevalence time of edentulism and the main factors affecting the quality of fixed partial dentures (FPD) in three outpatients in the city of Ambato, Tungurahua province, Ecuador. This retrospective study was conducted in private dental offices in Ambato, selecting a sample of patients with FPD. A statistical approach was used to analyze the incidence of periodontal diseases and caries, as well as the effectiveness of FPD retention. Data were collected through clinical records and analyzed using IBM SPSS statistical software, applying Chi-square tests to determine the significance of the associations between the studied variables. It was identified that FPDs are negatively affected by periodontal diseases and caries. Proper retention of FPDs emerged as a crucial element for the success of the treatment. The research concluded that failures in FPDs are notably linked to periodontal problems and retention deficiencies, underscoring the need for a preventive approach in dental practice. ; El edentulismo, la pérdida total o parcial de dientes, afecta a personas de todas las edades y puede surgir debido a varios factores, como lesiones, caries o falta de atención dental.
