Background: Laboratory specialists are essential in infection control and management within hospital settings. This study explores their role in infection control, identifies challenges faced, and examines strategies for improvement. Methods: A qualitative study was conducted with laboratory specialists at a single hospital. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed to identify key themes and sub-themes related to their contributions, challenges, and strategies for enhancing infection control practices. Findings: Laboratory specialists contribute significantly by providing timely and accurate diagnostic information, supporting outbreak management, and aiding in infection tracking. Challenges include technical issues, resource limitations, and communication barriers with clinical teams. Strategies to improve performance include enhancing communication, upgrading technology, and streamlining workflows. Conclusion: Effective infection control relies on the critical role of laboratory specialists. Addressing the identified challenges and implementing strategies to improve processes can enhance patient safety and infection management. |
