الوصف: | Pycnodysostosis is an autosomal recessive disease characterized by bone fragility and delayed closure of cranial sutures whose pathophysiology has been attributed to a deficiency of cathepsin K, the incidence is 1 per 100,000 in a population. The most frequent clinical manifestations are spontaneous fractures. The patients present characteristic cranial malformations, voluminous frontal, exophthalmos, small mandible, ogival palate, periodontal disease, delayed eruption and dental persistence. The management is symptomatic and multidisciplinary, it includes an orthopedic follow-up, for the treatment of fractures, in the area of dentistry, it can be rehabilitated considering the time of each appointment and care to avoid fractures. A 9-year-old female patient diagnosed with pycnodysostosis, from Puebla, attended a pediatric stomatology clinic of the FEBUAP due to dental caries, with characteristic features of the syndrome, a complete clinical history was performed, a oral hygiene, prophylaxis with topical application of 5% sodium fluoride, extractions of temporary teeth, resins and monitoring of their oral habits. Patients with pycnodysostosis should be examined and treated carefully for risks to bone fractures involving short work times in the dental chair, it is recommended to implement oral hygiene measures to prevent tooth decay and periodontal problems.
