الوصف: To carry out their activities, humanitarian workers operating in conflict-affected and high-risk areas depend on knowing the current security situation of where they are. However, the information available to them in those areas is often incomplete or unreliable. Therefore, having access to alternative forms of knowing could be beneficial. In that regard, the purpose of this work is to identify resonances between transrational peace philosophy and extrasensory perception and discover if these forms of knowing can be useful sources of information in those contexts. On one hand, extrasensory perception is defined in the field of parapsychology as a potential capacity of the mind to acquire information from another mind or the environment around it without the mediation of the physical senses. On the other hand, transrational peace philosophy is open to the possibility of different forms of knowing other than the intellectual one, such as intuitive knowing or transpersonal knowing. After delving into these topics and exploring the resonances between them, I interview six humanitarian workers to assess how they might take these forms of knowing into account in their daily activities. My findings are that most humanitarian workers interviewed use what they refer to with terms as instinct, gut-feeling, or intuition – which could eventually be experiences of extrasensory perception – as a guide to whether they can trust or should double-check the security information being provided to them. On some occasions, this has made the difference between life and death. However, they generally do not have a deep understanding about these terms nor knowledge about parapsychological phenomena. Also, they do not have a structured way to prepare themselves to be open to these experiences or to benefit from having them. Finding ways to develop in humanitarian workers the capacity to use more effectively these alternative forms of knowing could improve their security in conflict-affected and high-risk areas. ; Masterarbeit ...
