الوصف: Tese de Programa Inter-Universitário de Doutoramento em Psicologia, área de especialização em Psicologia Clínica - área temática: Psicologia da Família e Intervenção Familiar apresentada à Faculdade de Psicologia e de Ciências da Educação ; The theoretical framework of Family Development serves as a reference for understanding the functioning and evolution of the family, establishing normative and unexpected events over time, and being an essential tool in research and clinical practice. However, existing family development models are theoretically developed in specific cultural and social contexts, so they may not fit in other settings. For example, few models are designed for the African population, and in particular the Angolan population. Thus, this research project sought to fill this gap within the literature by meeting the following objectives: (a) Building a model of the developmental trajectory of urban families in Southern Angola; (b) empirically validating this model; (c) and exploring some indicators of family functioning, specifically family vulnerability to stress, family strength index, and family investment in rituals and routines.The research was carried out in Southern Angola (i.e., Huíla, Namibe, and Cunene) and followed a retrospective and transversal approach of mixed nature (sequential exploratory mixed methodology). It was organized into two large studies. The first qualitative study sought to respond to the first objective by using: (a) Semi-structured interviews with 20 professionals (9 women and 11 men) who work with families in their professional practice (e.g., clergy, teachers, nurses, etc.), aged between 26-88 years; (b) semi-structured interviews, presented in a timeline format, carried out with 36 heterosexual couples (a total of 72 individuals), aged between 19 and 65 years.
