Objective The purpose of the study was to discuss the relationship between retirement and depression in the elderly and to promote a theoretical reflection from the perspective of the enlarged clinic in view of this transition. Method The present research consists of a theoretical reflection, based on scientific articles discussing about retirement and depression, in which they discuss discussions about the perceptions and meanings of work in old age, transition to retirement, rela- tionships between retirement and depression in the elderly and the contributions of psychology in the life of the elderly pre and post-retirement. Results The articles used in the discussion were published in 2014 and 2015 with 8 articles in each year, followed by the year 2016, with 7 articles published. Conclusions In this way, the literature points out the necessity of continuous preparation for the worker and not only on the eve of retirement. Therefore, these intervention actions will be essential so that the elderly subject can enjoy a successful retirement without major impacts on their health. ; Objetivo El objetivo del estudio fue discutir la relación entre la jubilación y la depresión en los ancianos y promover una reflexión teórica desde la perspectiva de la clínica ampliada antes de esta transición. Métodos La presente investigación consiste en una reflexión teórica, basada en artículos científicos que tratan sobre la jubilación y la depresión, en los que se discuten las percepciones y los significados del trabajo en la vejez, la transición a la jubilación, las relaciones entre la jubilación y la depresión en las personas mayores y aportaciones de la psicología en la vida del adulto mayor y posterior a la jubilación. Resultados Los artículos utilizados en el debate se publicaron en el 2014 y el 2015, con 8 artículos cada año, seguidos del año 2016, con 7 artículos publicados.
