At the height of political, military and diplomatic missions in the Great War, musicians from Kingdom of Serbia and all participating countries successfully fought their battles, in order to respond to needs of the new context. In several interesting activities of the musicians from the Kingdom of Serbia for this presentation we singled out the activities of the one of the most prominent music personality from mentioned country − Stanislav Binički. This prominent figure of pre-war music life continued with numerous activities from the very start of the war, especially as a conductor of the King's Guard Orchestra (KGO) and also a person in charge for all military music units of the Serbian Army, but also as a composer. As his orchestra KGO was devoted to official presentation of Serbian culture abroad, in this presentation special focus need to be put on their tour in France in September 1916, and many successful concerts in Thessaloniki with many Serbian musicians in exile as soloist. In this presentation, we will address Binički's military music activities with his composing and organizing efforts, at two functional levels: preservation of national identity and cultural diplomacy. Lastly, this presentation is a result of the years of archival and periodical research in many institutions, from Military Archive of Serbia to National library and Theater Museum in Serbia etc, and as such, is connected to several previous papers of an author. |
