The Atacama region has records of felids since the early 20th century, indicating the presence of Felis guigna and Puma concolor in the commune of Caldera and Felis pajeros in the commune of Copiapó. Currently, six different felid species are recognized in Chile, three of which have records in the Atacama region, one belonging to the genus Puma (Puma concolor) and two to the genus Leopardus (Leopardus colocolo; Leopardus Jacobita). All these species have records in the last 15 years and are distributed in various communes of the region. This research proceeded to evaluate the direct records of the three felid species present in the Atacama region through specialized journals, technical reports from CONAF (National Forestry Corporation), press releases, and carcasses deposited in the regional museum of Atacama (MRA). Their morphological characteristics, geographical distribution in the region, and conservation status of the three species were referenced. Likewise, it was evaluated whether the current felid records coincide with the species and areas described in the historical records of the Atacama region. A general cartography was generated indicating the communes present in the region and the places where each of the felid species has been recorded in the last 15 years. This is done with the aim of proposing management plans and specific conservation measures for each sector with sightings of these species protected by law throughout the National territory.
