| الوصف: | The article presents data of trial aimed at assessing patients‘ social hearing handicap index (SHHI). A total of 60 patients were examined, all of which complained of hearing loss and difficulties in communicating with other people. Pure tone and speech audiometry was carried out on all patients. They also filled in a questionnaire which was the basis for our assessment of the persons‘ handicap in evertday life. The purpose of the work was to establish the SHHI in the group studied, and to evaluate its relation to psychoacustic testing parameters and degree of hearing impairment. It has lead to the conclusion that the SHHI statistical average in the examined patients was 61,1±18,7 % and statistically reliably correlated with the statistical average speech recognition threshold of the better ear. The SHHI value increases as the degree of hearing impairment rises. SHHI reflects patients‘ state of hearing handicap reliably and can be used as an additional test allowing to assess the quality of life of the patients with hearing loss. |
