الوصف: Current measurement systems and current sensors are important devices that are indispensable in today's electrified world. Accurate current measurement is important in a large variety of applications such as power and current control in power converters, quality monitoring, load balancing or fault detection. With respect to power converters for particle accelerators, the requirements towards accurate, precise and repeatable current measurement are even more stringent due to the requirement of highly stable and repeatable magnetic fields. A promising concept for accurate, high bandwidth and indirect current measurement is based on the magneto-optical Faraday effect. The Faraday effect describes the relation between a magnetic field that is externally applied to a specific type of material and the rotation of the plane of polarisation (PoP) of light that propagates through this material. Based on the sensor's sensitivity towards the current or magnetic field to be measured, a high resolution of the current can be achieved. When only considering the Faraday effect based measurement probe, the measurement bandwidth is limited only by the propagation time of the light through the Faraday rotator. Limitations arise therefore mainly from the analog and digital measurement bandwidth. Due to the indirect measurement of the current and the material used in the sensor, Faraday effect based sensor probes provide good isolation. In this thesis, a Faraday effect based current measurement probe that aims at exploiting the concept of multiple rotations of the PoP is investigated. The central promise of the multiple rotation approach is a high current sensitivity that increases the measurement resolution and removes the restriction of small current measurement ranges. The high current resolution allows an increased measurement accuracy. A central component of the Faraday effect based current measurement probe is the Faraday rotator. The Faraday rotator consists of magneto-optical material that allows the modulation of the ...
