| الوصف: | This article analyses the organization of the official celebration of the national centenary of independence on the part of the Chilean State, which took place between 1904 and 1910. Through the revision and analysis of parliamentary discussions and the laws and public decrees enacted in Chile during this period, we can conclude that the possibility of actually celebrating the Centennial was not a given. On the contrary, it arises during a particular time, in the first years of the twentieth century and as a response to the national elite’s interest and expectations. In the context of a parliamentary regime, the Chilean Centennial’s official celebration depended almost exclusively on the initiative and will of the members of the National Congress. ; Este artículo analiza el proceso de organización de la celebración oficial del centenario nacional de la independencia por parte del Estado de Chile, el cual se desarrolló entre los años 1904 y 1910. A través de la revisión y análisis de las discusiones parlamentarias y las leyes y decretos publicadas en Chile durante este periodo, se concluye que la posibilidad de celebrar el centenario no estaba dada por sentada, sino que surgió en un momento particular, en los primeros años del siglo xx, y como respuesta a los intereses y expectativas de un determinado grupo de la sociedad, la élite nacional. Y dado que el país estaba organizado en un régimen parlamentario, que se celebrara de manera oficial el centenario chileno dependió casi exclusivamente de la iniciativa y voluntad de los miembros del Congreso Nacional. |
