الوصف: |
In this study, PDMS-coated nets were fabricated by impregnating nylon nets with the poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS)/hexane solution. By diluting the PDMS with hexane, the viscosity of the unpolymerized PDMS decreased significantly, enabling the complete penetration of PDMS into the net yarn and the mechanical interlocking between the PDMS and the net yarn. No effect on the polymerization of PDMS was found when using hexane. By modifying the viscosity of the solution (through adjusting the weight ratios of PDMS to hexane), the thickness of the PDMS can be adjusted. The influence of PDMS thickness on the weight increase of the nets, the force at fracture, the wear resistance, and the biofouling control performance was investigated in detail. Taking all of the above factors as well as the long-term effectiveness into consideration, the nets with a thick PDMS (i.e., PDMS-to-hexane dilution ratios of 2:1 and 1:1) showed the best performance. In addition, it was shown that the Shore hardness of PDMS has negligible effects on the biofouling control properties. To prevent the photodegradation of the nylon nets, tetrapodal-shaped ZnO (t-ZnO) microparticles were successfully incorporated as a UV-blocking material. |
