الوصف: Laser Cutting Technology has expanded the available configurations of beam-to-column connections for steel Moment-Resisting Frames (MRFs). The main feature of this technology is the possibility of manufacturing welded joints with tubular columns precisely cut according to the cross-section shape of double-tee profiles so that I-beams can pass through and be welded to the hollow sections. Such an approach offers the opportunity to enhance the strength and stiffness compared to traditional joints. This strategy has been investigated within the LASTEICON research project and at the University of Salerno (UNISA). Specifically, experimental, numerical, and analytical activities have been carried out at UNISA to characterise the flexural strength of connections between Circular Hollow Section (CHS) columns and passing through double-tee beams according to the component method approach. A similar study recently focused on connections with Square Hollow Section (SHS) columns. Within this framework, the current research has investigated the cyclic response of welded T-joints between SHS profiles and through-all plates, that can be considered as SHS-to-flange attachments of beam-to-column sub-assemblies. The work involved conducting three Finite Element (FE) simulations on T-joints that will also be experimentally tested at UNISA, allowing to perform numerical simulations on 30 different configurations. The obtained force-displacement curves were then used to calibrate and predict the parameters of the “hysteretic uniaxialmaterial” element from the OpenSees library through analytical formulations.
