الوصف: The eastern part of Indian sub-continent is known as Bengal. It carried different names in different times indicating the whole of Bengal. On the other hand, since ancient times to pre-Mughal period Bengal was divided into different geographical divisions. These are called as Pundravardhana, Varendra, Guada, Radha, Suhma, Tamralipta, Vanga, Vangala, Samtatata, Harikela. These divisions overlapped with each other in different times. In 1947, he eastern part of Bengal was merged with Pakistan and the westrn part included in Indian union. The division of Vanga-Samatata and Harikela formed a separate entity in eastern side of Bengal, which is situated now in Bangladesh. It played an important role in the social, economic and cultural life of Bengal. Located on the seashore it easily maintained a trade relation with the outside world through the overseas route in the period of feudal system in Bengal.
