This exploratory study investigates the perceptions that the young-adult people, between 18-40 years old, and residents in the Community of Madrid (Spain), have about the possible significant role that romantic love plays compared to other affective-loving and couples alternatives in today’s society, as well as the possible influence that variables like the use of social networks and online applications, feminism and the LGTBIQ+ collective exert on them. For this purpose, the methodology used was eminently qualitative, doing 35 interviews and 3 discussion groups as the main data production tools. The results show a multifaceted coexistence between the maintenance of romantic love, as a hegemonic referent, and the destigmatization of other possibilities of construction and visibility of new and more egalitarian loving realities in matters of gender and sexual orientation, where sex could be detached from the emotional aspect. As conclusions, it’ s pointed out the existence of an equity between the role of romantic love as the traditional explanatory axis of current couple relationships, and a process of social change, which tries to direct it to a referential periphery, influenced by feminist and LGTBIQ+ ideas, and where online social networks act as an invaluable mediation tool, despite their repercussions in terms of danger and identity.
