الوصف: | The ever-increasing interest in smart grids and electric vehicles has triggered intensive research on new technologies and practices for efficient energy management. The electrochemical cells are the prevalent solution for the energy storage systems of smart grids and electric vehicles. Hence, new research for methods related to the efficient energy management of battery systems is crucial. The main objective of this doctoral thesis is to propose methods for the efficient energy management of electric vehicles in two main axes. The first axis is related to the development of electronic power converters and algorithms to manage the energy of the electrochemical cells that belong in a battery stack, aiming to ensure that each cell operates according to the specifications set by the manufacturer. The second axis of this doctoral thesis is related to the energy management of electric vehicles in a higher level, through the development of decision-making algorithms for the charging of electric vehicles and the selection of the most appropriate charging station based on the requirements of the drivers. The energy management of the battery cells is performed by the Battery Management Systems (BMSs). The purpose of the BMS is twofold. On the one hand, the BMS is responsible for the supervision of the condition of the cell, through measurements related to its operation. On the other hand, the BMSs are used for the energy equalization among the cells of a battery stack, aiming to avoid overcharging or undercharging situations that may radically damage the cell.In the context of this thesis, it is assumed that the battery stack is divided into battery modules, and each module contains eight cells. As a result, the equalization of the energy among the cells is performed in two layers. The first layer of equalization refers to the equalization of the energy among the cells that belong in a battery module, following the bidirectional Module-to-Cell energy flow. The second layer of equalization refers to the equalization of the ... |
