| الوصف: | The aim of this Bachelor thesis is to examine the impact of foreign direct investment (FDI) on the development of information and communication technology (ICT) sector in Lithuania. First of all, an analysis of dynamics and tendencies of FDI and ICT sector in Lithuania and worldwide is presented. After that a literature analysis together with a summary of studies and researches about the impact of FDI on economic growth of a country or a particular sector is provided. Subsequently, to investigate a relationship between FDI and the development of ICT sector a correlation analysis, Granger causality test and regression analysis are performed. The results of correlation analysis indicate that there is not any significant link between the development of ICT sector and independent variables except one – households access to the Internet. Although, Granger causality test shows that there is a bidirectional causal relationship between the value added of ICT sector and FDI in the ICT sector. That is to say FDI in the ICT sector does Granger-cause the development of ICT sector and the development of ICT sector does Granger-cause attracted FDI inflows in the ICT sector. Finally, the results of regression analysis reveal that the FDI inflows in the ICT sector do not have any positive impact on the development of ICT sector. Conversely, an increase in FDI inflows means a decrease of the value added of ICT sector. The reasons of such result could be referable to a problematic lag selection of variable FDI, relatively small number of observations and a low level of FDI inflows in Lithuania. |
