| الوصف: | Worldwide, there are about a thousand mummy portraits left from Roman Egypt, which have become scattered in hundreds of museum and private collections. Most of the portraits were painted on wood and placed on the mummy's face. About 5% of these portraits were painted on textile, usually linen. The Allard Pierson owns six Roman-Egyptian mummy portraits, including one on linen. That portrait is the subject of this article. |
