الوصف: | Aim: To evaluate serum level of copper and lead in patients with and without age related macular degeneration, and reveal to between association of these elements and pathophysiology of macular degeneration. Material and methods: In the study, 26 patients with age-related macular degeneration and 28 healthy controls were included. Amounts of lead and copper in blood serum samples was measured using graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (Perkin Elmer Analyst A 700). Results: The mean age of the study patients and control groups, was 64.0±5.5 years and 65.9±5.2 years, respectively (p=0.144). Serum levels of copper in the patient group and control group was 13.71±0.74 µmol/l and 22.20±1.05 µmol/l, respectively (p=0.001). Serum levels of lead in patients group and the control group was 29.66±1.25 µmol/l and 0.02 ± 0.45, respectively (p = 0.001). Conclusion: Serum levels of copper and lead in the patients with age-related macular degeneration were higher. These trace elements in the pathogenesis of this disease, which is increased by increasing oxidative stress may play an important role ; Amaç: Yaşa bağlı makula dejenerasyonu olan ve olmayan hasta grubunda serum bakır ve kurşun düzeyini araştırmak ve bu elementlerin makuler dejenerasyon fizyopatolojisindeki yerini ortaya koymak. Gereç ve yöntemler: Toplam 26 yaşa bağlı makula dejenerasyonu hastası ve 28 kontrol olgu çalışmaya dahil edildi. Kan serumu örneklerindeki bakır ve kurşun miktarları grafit fırınlı atomik absorbsiyon spektrometri (A Perkin Elmer AAnalyst 700) kullanılarak ölçüldü. Bulgular: Olguların yaş ortalamaları sırası ile hasta ve kontrol grubunda 64.0±5.5 yıl ve 65.9±5.2 yıl olarak hesaplandı (p=0.144). Serum bakır düzeyi hasta grubunda 22.20±1.05 μmol/l ve kontrol grubunda 13.71±0.74 μmol/l olarak bulundu (p=0.001). Serum kurşun düzeyi hasta grubunda 29.66±1.25 μmol/l ve kontrol grubunda 0.02±0.45 μmol/l olarak ölçüldü (p=0.001).
