الوصف: |
This study explored the culturally competent beliefs of practice, social justice and race from emergent educators with varying levels of colorblindness. The emergent educators are currently enrolled graduate students at one university in the southeastern region of North America. Applying Onwuegbuzie and Leechs (2007) framework for nested sampling, data from 17 participants are analyzed for thematic similarities around issues of culture and cultural competence. While nested in groups according to high or low levels of colorblindness, structural narrative analysis (Labov & Waletzky, 1967) was applied to probe for racial awareness and how it nuances culturally competent orientations. Findings suggest that culturally competent practice may not be enough as colorblind ways of looking at others played a much larger role in educators decision-making processes. |
