The etiology may be aging, joint trauma, abnormal repetitive overloads, obesity among others. Degenerative changes include cracks and loss of articular cartilage, capsular fibrosis and formation of osteophytes at joint margins (Patrizzi et al, 2004). Presents clinically with recurrent episodes of pain, synovitis with or without effusion, stiffness and progressive movements (WEINSTEIN and Buckwalter, 2000). A total hip arthroplasty (THA) has become excellent treatment method for pain relief and functional improvement in patients with degenerative disease of the hip joint. This study aimed to analyze what influences the performance of total hip arthroplasty in gait and functionality of subjects undergoing this procedure due to osteoarthrosis. According Maffiuletti and collaborators, 2009 at gait manifested in the temporal and spatial measures such as gait speed, the step length and duration of support and swing phases, however, there is no consensus in the literature on continued improvement of gait after THA, but is common understanding that rehabilitation with physiotherapy is crucial to the success of gait quality and recovery of function after the surgical procedure. ; A osteoartrose é a doença mais comum que acomete a articulação do quadril. A etiologia pode ser envelhecimento, trauma articular, sobrecargas repetitivas anormais, obesidade entre outras. As alterações degenerativas incluem fissuras e perda de cartilagem articular, fibrose capsular e formação de osteófitos nas margens articulares (PATRIZZI et al, 2004).
